How we Make Blankets
Lifestyle
In many homes, we adorn our space with textiles. As warm throw blankets or colorful wall hangings, a mattress with sheets and comforter as we drift to sleep. Then we have towels to dry the dishes, curtains to let the daylight in, even protection from hot cooking pans; the list goes on. Have you ever given thought to where all of these textiles come from beyond a brand name?
As it goes, our society gives us a checklist of items we need in the home and we dutifully tick the boxes, giving us more reasons to fulfill these imaginary requirements. The same principle applies to how we select any item we consume.
Natural is Always Better
Natural fibers have been used in textiles from the very beginning. Categories are both of plant and animal: cellulose (plant-based) include cotton, linen, hemp, and jute. Animal derived fibers produce silk, wool, cashmere, alpaca and more.
🤯Did you know Nylon was the first synthetic fiber to be created to replace silk, which would be difficult to acquire during WWII? This was 1938. Less than 100 years ago!
Some reports point to humans clothing themselves for 170,000 years, which points to how we've evolved to use natural fibers in harmony. Artifacts don't often survive that long because they biodegrade. We think that's a good thing. It's time we get back to our roots.
Our Commitment
🌿The experts and craftspeople at our North Carolina mill utilize pre-shrunk, 100% cotton yarns with recycled cotton content.
This creates an eco-friendly option for your blanket that is long lasting, fade/shrink resistant, and breathable.
✳️ We trust organizations who are dedicated to protecting people and the planet:
- YESS, the Yarn, Ethically and Sustainably Sourced policy is applicable to all of our cotton and recycled fiber, providing standards for equitable treatment of cotton producers and yarn makers.
- All dyed fibers are certified as OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, ensuring materials have been tested and proven to be free of harmful and toxic chemicals.
Synthetics are Causing Harm
